"Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple" 

is an ancient Hindu temple in the town of Trimbak, in the Trimbakeshwar tehsil in the Nashik District.

It is dedicated to the god Shiv and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.

The current temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao (Nanasaheb).

The Idol of the Sun God inside Konark Temple was built of a material with iron content & was used to float in air without any support due to the unique arrangements of the top, bottom and the reinforced magnets around temple walls before the Portuguese destroyed it.

The uniqueness of the Sun Temple of Konark lies in the fact that it was built with an architectural setup of various magnets. During the construction of the main tower of the temple the artisans put an iron plate between every two stone pieces.

Lodestone at the top of temple was said to be a massive 52ton magnet. 

Placement of the main temple & the Sun God had been aligned in such a way that the first ray of Sun from the coast would cross the Nata Mandir & would fall & reflect from the diamond placed at the crown of Sun God.

Ancient temples have always been one of the most amazing threads in the tapestry of Indian culture, and Gujarat surely has an spectacular array of temples to consider when charting out your next trip to the state. 

The Modhera Sun Temple was made by King Bhima I of the Chalukya dynasty in the early 11th century. 

It is a temple made to honour the Sun God in Modhera village of Mehsana district on the bank of River Pushpavati. The temple complex is divided into three parts – Gudha Mandapa (the shrine hall), Sabha Mandapa (the assembly hall) and Kunda (the reservoir). 

The temple is designed in such a way that during every equinox, the first ray of the rising sun would fall on a diamond placed on the head of the Sun God. This would also light up the shrine with a golden glow.

The Sabha Mandap stands on 52 pillars, signifying the 52 weeks in a year. There are carvings of the sun on the walls to show its unity with air, water, earth and space.

An extremely rare manifestiation of Bhagwan Shiva via a 4 headed Shivalinga at Chaumukh Nath Mandir at Nachna, Panna District of Madhya Pradesh. 

The left face represents Vish Grahan Roop while the right face represents the Parinay Shaant roop. 

The Mandir is believed to be from the 5th century C.E.

The spires of the #Lakshmana temple, dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu, at the UNESCO World Heritage site at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, BHARAT (India) 

Built between 930-950 CE during the reign of King Yasovarman of the Chandella kingdom, it houses a sacred image of Vaikuntha-Vishnu. The Lakshmana #temple is not only one of the oldest in Khajuraho but it is also one of the most exquistely decorated.

Lakshmana temple enshrines the mystic form of Lord Vishnu called Vaikuntha, which is 1.3 m. (4 ft.) high with three faces of the Lion, Man, and Boar. The temple was affiliated to the Vaishnavite Pancharatra sect of the Kashmir school, which worshipped Vishnu in this composite form. Madhya Pradesh is a land of Great antiquity. And the Khajuraho Temple is the one which depicts a sensuous poetry carved in stone. The temple's inscription states that King Yashovarman who built this splendid temple to house the Vaikuntha image that he acquired from his overlord, the Pratihara king, who in turn had got it from the ruler of Chamba region. His son Dhangadeva consecrated the temple in AD 954.

The Lakshmana temple has five-shrines or Panchayatana complex and stands in the centre of a high platform along with its four subsidiary shrines in the corners. All along the platform, a continuous sculptural pathway depicts scenes of everyday life, a royal hunt, battle, traders, dancers and musicians, dancer conversing with a religious teacher and elixir preparation amidst an orgy.

The exterior wall of the main temple is divided into two zones of sculptures depicting graceful apsaras, snake goddesses, griffins, and couples in the recesses. The upper zone carries the images of the different forms of Vishnu while Lord Shiva occupies a significant position on the lower zone. One of the more noteworthy sculptures on the southeast side is that of two males ecstatically dancing with castanets in their hands. The front facade of the temple has an image of the Sun god holding two lotuses.

The architect of Lakshmana temple was the first to place erotic groups on the juncture wall of the mahamandapa and the sanctum. This is the only temple in Khajuraho that depicts the avatars of Vishnu on its jambs, pairing Matsya (Fish), Varaha, and Vamana Avtar on the left jamb with Kurma (Tortoise), Narasimha, and Parasurama on the right jamb. The centre of the header is presided over by the Goddess Lakshmi.

The images of Vishnu's incarnations are present in the three cardinal niches of the walls: Varaha in the south, Narasimha in the west, and Hayagriva (Horse necked one) in the north. In the upper western niche Vishnu-Narayana can be seen amidst his devotees at Svetadvipa, a mythic island mentioned in the Mahabharata .The three placid scenes of Vishnu-Narayana discoursing with the sages are interspersed with twelve panels depicting Krishna slaying or subduing demons. Sculptures of Lakshmi, Saraswati, Mahishasuramardini, Durga-Kshemankari with two lions, Tripura in meditation posture, and others are found in the niches of the sanctum and the mahamandapa. The planetary divinities (Grahas) play an important part in the iconography of the Baikuntha temple. In the interior of the temple they are represented on the door lintel of the sanctum, while on the exterior, their figures are placed around the temple in all niches of the plinth.

'Uchi Pillayar' Temple with Rockfort

"Uchi Pillayar" means "Lord Vinayaga at the Top (of the hillock)". This small temple perched at the top of a hillock at the heart of the city of Tiruchirappalli or Trichy, as it is popularly known, is one of my favourite temples of Lord Vinayaga, the elephant-faced god. Climbing the hill and then praying to the Lord and having a look at the city from top are experiences I cherish. Only it is becoming difficult for me nowadays to climb it, as I am aging.

These photographs were taken by me during my visit to Trichy last week, using my Canon Powershot A-590 camera. I have used the auto mode only. I am yet to learn the intricacies of the camera and utilize it to its fullest potential.
